UCDVO Conference is happening Nov 26th!

The Annual UCDVO (Volunteer Overseas) Conference will take place on Saturday 26th November in UCD. This year's conference will focus on opportunities for past volunteers to pursue further studies in development and humanitarian action, explore career opportunities within the development sector, as well as considering how to incorporate global perspectives into existing career paths or areas of study. Registration is now open via this link.

During the morning session, there will be a panel of 3 past UCDVO volunteers sharing their experiences - Darren Gill (Architect), Stuart Garrett (Physiotherapist) and Mary McGrane (MSc Management candidate with experience in CSR and not-for-profit sector). They will share insights from their experiences as volunteers and how this has influenced their career paths and the steps they have taken to progress their careers in these areas. The afternoon workshops will focus on opportunities in global health, business and finance, architecture and engineering, and community development and education.

There will be an "opportunity marketplace" during the afternoon where participants will have a chance to speak directly to organisations and academics about the opportunities which they have available for jobs, courses, internships, volunteering, campaigns and events. The following organisations and academic units will be represented on the day:

  • Concern Worldwide
  • Comhlámh
  • School of Politics and International Relations, UCD
  • Centre for Humanitarian Action, UCD
  • GOAL Global
  • Trócaire
  • Kimmage Development Studies Centre
  • Development Perspectives
  • CHEEERS: Developing Healthcare Together
  • Engineers Without Borders
  • Beyond Remittances-Diaspora Volunteers in Ireland (BR-DVI)
  • EU Aid Volunteer Initiative
  • Irish Aid

This is an excellent opportunity for students and graduates to explore the many opportunities for incorporating the learning gained through volunteering activities into current areas of study, career planning or through development education activities in their free-time.
