Description

  • Ability to engage in a one-year programme which includes pre-project training, development education, a one month overseas placement, debriefing and awareness raising.
  • Ability to commit to the full Programme for the Year and all mandatory events.
  • Flexible with regards where you go and what kind of work you do overseas - preferences and skills will be taken into account at the interview stage, however applications are not sought for specific project locations or tasks, UCDVO requires a high level of flexibility from volunteers.
  • Motivated by working with communities in developing countries and gaining an understanding of different cultures and lifestyles.
  • Have an open mind and are adaptable to new environments, i.e. not distressed by change in climate, food, language, living conditions.
  • Can commit to raising €2,600 between December and May.
  • Can work in a team and also use own initiative.
  • Creative and have a positive attitude.
  • Willing to share their experiences on return and engage in awareness raising activities with the UCDVO Student Society or networks of returned volunteers.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Attend development education workshops

Undertake Fundraising

Participate in education, healthcare or infrastructural development projects overseas (depending on project and skills)

Attend debriefing

Participate in awareness raising on return

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Average of 1 evening per week and 1 weekend per month at the pre-departure stage. 4 weeks overseas. 2 days on return.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
