Do you have a passion for making and want to share your knowledge? The MakerSpace at NUI Galway is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to run informal workshops throughout the academic year.

A few possible topics include:

  • Intro to 3D Design and Printing
  • Intro to Arduino
  • Rapid Prototyping
  • Build Your Own Drone
  • Build Your Own Speakers
  • Drone Safety & Flying
  • Mobile Phone Photography and Video Production
  • Wearable Tech
  • Making Digital Art with Adobe
  • 3D Scanning 
  • Tilt Brush and VR Artwork
  • VR and 360 Degree Video

All materials needed for workshops will be provided.

About the MakerSpace at NUI Galway:

A place to imagine, learn, fail, make and remake. The MakerSpace in the library is open to all students and provides you with an environment to unleash your practical creativity. The MakerSpace contains a suite of PCs outfitted with high end design software, Arduino microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi computers, 3D Printers and more. Learn more at We are all makers.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

The volunteer will be expected to prepare and deliver informal workshops to up to fifteen students at a time. Support in preparing, booking, promoting and delivering the workshop will be provided. 

This is a great opportunity to share your skills in a fun and informal setting and access some of the technology available in the MakerSpace. You'll get great experience in teaching and in science communication. 

Skills required for this role:

  • Good communication skills
  • Passion for making, breaking and remaking

Details of time commitment needed for role:
You can spend as much or as little time as you like volunteering. Whether you would like to run a single half hour workshop, a day-long seminar, or a weekly series of lectures, it's up to you.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
Volunteers will be asked to provide CV and a brief description of your proposed workshop.
