Seal Rescue Ireland: Marketing and Development Internship

Seal Rescue Ireland (SRI) is a very busy marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation facility located in Courtown, Co. Wexford. It is the only seal rehabilitation facility in the Republic of Ireland and responds to strandings nationwide. Most distressed seal calls are for Grey and Common seal pups which have become injured, sick or orphaned. SRI also promotes public engagement in sustainability and ocean conservation through active education, outreach and research activities. The facility is accepting applicants for positions in their challenging and exciting internship program for start dates year round. This is a full time position for a minimum of 12 weeks, however priority will be given to candidates who can stay longer. Free room and board may be offered if the intern excels and is invited to stay longer.

Job Summary: This position will provides the intern with work experience in all aspects of a rescue and rehabilitation centre with primary focus in the marketing, advertising, public relations, and management of donors and sponsors. The intern will be expected to oversee fundraising programs and help with development, plan/attend events, and source other types of funding. Other duties include assisting with the donor program, clerical and administrative duties. Partial involvement in assisting in the husbandry care of rehabilitation animals is an option if interested.

Requirements: Applicants are desired that have a previous experience in fundraising and/or worked/volunteered for Not-for-Profits. A degree or pursuit of a degree in business management, event planning, marketing, public relations, fundraising, or a similar field is preferred. Applicants must be organized, personable, adaptable and have the ability to plan events. Background knowledge of marine mammals is a bonus but not required. Having a positive attitude, strong work ethic,  and public speaking skills is a must. Applicants must possess the ability to handle multiple projects, and be available to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Attend and Plan events/fundraisers

Research/Write Grants (no prior experience needed but writing skills essential)

Daily Clerical and Admin Duties

Management of Donor Program

Marketing Duties including poster and ad design (if able)

Assist in the care and maintenance of the Center’s rehabilitation animals (if desired)

Participate in educational talks or tours at the facility.

Provide assistance to the Manager and rehabilitation staff as needed.

 

This is an unpaid position. Intern housing is available at 90 Euro/Week (includes food) on a first come first served basis. Interns are responsible for all travel expenses.
