The volunteer will work with the St. John's Senior Citizens Club Committee to organise activities for a group of seniors that meet in the Good Shepherd Convent in Pennywell every Thursday from 2-5.  The group is mixed in terms of age and capacity but overall is active and independently minded.  A volunteer from UL is already helping with the group and building great relationships and helping in a range of tasks, including: implementing games and activities, serving refreshments, and general support tasks, particularly light physical tasks, such as moving chairs etc.  We are now looking for a 2nd volunteer to support this great work.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Assisting more frail members into the centre on arrival
  • Helping with tea and refreshments
  • Assisting in organising games, activities and trips
  • Supporting the committee in running its meetings
  • Light kitchen work as required
  • Liaising with other agencies to identify other sources of support

Skills required for this role:

  • Empathy for the older person
  • Energy enthusiasm
  • Initiative
  • Good listening and commnication skills

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Thursday afternoons

Minimum time commitment per week:
3 hour p/week
