Special Olympics Ireland is sports organisation for people with an intellectual disability. In conjunction with our affiliate clubs, we provide athletes with a range of opportunities from sport to health promotion and athlete leadership.
Limerick City Special Olympics Club are expanding their sports offerings for their athletes and are looking for volunteers to assist across the sports and also with the general administration of the club. No coaching experience is required but if you would like to assist with coaching, training can be arranged.
Is training provided?: Yes
Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
- Welcome and greet athletes on arrival
- Assist with the delivery of planned coaching sessions
- Promote a positive environment that fosters fun and safety
- Have knowledge and abide by all Special Olympics rules
Skills required for this role:
- Good communication skills
- Personable and friendly
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Swimming (Bawnmore): Mondays and Fridays from 8-9pm Wednesdays from 7-8 pm Athletics (UL track): Tuesdays from 6.15 to 7pm BasketBall (Catherine McAuley school): Thursdays: Beginners from 6pm to 6.30pm Intermediate from 6.30pm to 7.15pm Advanced from 7.15pm to 8pm Floorball (Daughters of Charity, Lisnagry) Wednesdays (Times to be confirmed)
Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
