Description

This volunteer will work with young people engaged in our Youth Work Service.  The volunteer will be part of a team of  Youth Work staff and other volunteers.  This team are involved in rolling out a range of activities for young people aged 10-24 years of age. The volunteer would join these activities and support the team to engage the young people with additional needs in these groups.

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

The volunteer will be expected to:

  • Work in in- formal supportive youth work setting
  • Bring  their expertise to engaging with the young people
  • Support young people to get involved
  • Build positive relationships
  • Work with the wider team of staff and volunteers
  • Have fun with young people 
  • Follow organisational procedures/expectations

Skills required for this role:

Skills required

The volunteer would need to be enthusiastic and feel they can interact with young people age 10- 24yrs using an informal relaxed approach.

Other skills include a) an ability to engage with young people aged 10-24yrs of age- good interpersonal skills, b) good active listening skills c) knowledge of /empathy with the issues young people face in their lives, d) knowledge of the dynamic of the Ballymun community,  e) suitable qualities include empathy, patience, supportiveness, motivation; an upbeat and enthusiastic attitude; being dependable, adaptable, honest.   Finally, the volunteer needs to be a person who is able to work from ‘where the young person it at’ 

 

Desirable Skills required

The volunteer has skills/ experience working with young people with additional needs.
The volunteer had training in the area of supporting young people with additional needs

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The volunteer ideally would be able to commit 2 hours per week. The need for supporting young people is in many group through out the week, so the volunteer could link with the team manager to choose a day/time to suit the volunteer.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
