Volunteers will be expected to enter the water with the pupils and accompany them throughout the lesson. The lessons are taught by a swimming instructor and the class teacher, and SNAs will also be present. Volunteers may be asked to help the pupil with the specific swimming program and will work under the direction of the swimming instructor and the class teacher. Volunteers will may also be asked to assist pupils when dressing and undressing. School staff will also assist with dressing and undressing. Some of our pupils are non verbal and communicate though a variety of non verbal means such as LÁMH, pictures/symbols, facial expression and intonation, and assistive technology. Volunteers need to organise garda vetting as soon as possible. Also, our swimming pool is located on our campus at Lisnagry.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
Assisting pupils in the pool.
Interacting with pupils in and out of the pool.
Assisting with dressing and undressing skills if necessary
Taking direction from pool instructor and/or class teacher.
Skills required for this role:
No specific skills required.
Seperate garda vetting required
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Monday to Friday, school hours- 9.15 to 2.30pm
Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
