Requirements:
The VOICES project based at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy is looking for volunteers for its final workshop - 'Making our own Decisions: Sharing Stories & Creating Change' on the 22nd of November in the Institute for Lifecourse and Society, NUIG.
This is an exciting opportunity to hear about the real experiences of people who have been denied recognition by the law, and denied the opportunity to make day to day decisions in their lives. Many people in the VOICES project (including people with intellectual disabilities, mental health experience, autism and dementia) have not been allowed to make the most basic decisions in their lives – on issues like where and with whom to live, intimate relationships, travel, and medical treatment. Participants from 12 different countries will share their experiences, and researchers from the fields of law and social sciences will respond with ideas about what needs to change in law and practice to make sure that people’s human rights are respected.
We looking for volunteers to help with ushering, timekeeping, roving microphones, a recording booth and interactive art section and lots more and would be very grateful if any of you who are interested in the topic or this method of research could give some of your time on the day.
Is training provided?: Yes
