Description

Harambee is a Swahili word which means ‘working together’ and this is what Brighter Communities World-wide volunteering projects are all about. In 2018 we are looking for volunteers to help with further development of a trekking route with the community in Ndubusat.

As a volunteer you will —

Share your skills & experience to help develop new walking routes; build sign boards; create route de-scriptions; choose viewing points.

Help develop & deliver training for guides & porters

Share your skills in catering for trekkers and visitors with the local community..

One of the aims of the sustainable tourism programme is that all homes along the trekking route will be-come healthy homesteads. So as well as a focus on the trekking route, as a volunteer you will also add support to our community health programmes for example —

Installing smokeless cooking stoves.

Facilitating courses in lifeskills; remote emergency care & basic business skills.

Helping out with outreach clinics and field days that bring health services to remote communities.

All the while learning and gaining a unique insight into the challenge of life in rural Kenya.

Harambee projects are undertaken by teams of volunteers who train and prepare for the project together.  Pre-departure training is provided in advance.

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.
