Description

Foróige supports some 530 volunteer led youth groups around the country. Foróige works with all young people through our general services. Foróige Clubs, Foróige Juniors, Foróige Interest Clubs, Online Clubs, Foróige Youth Cafés encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves and to be part of shaping the world around them while developing their talents, skills and abilities. We also work with vulnerable young people who require additional support through a full range of targeted services. 

Foróige are hoping to increase further opportunities for the young people aged between 10-18 years in County Limerick by developing the number of Foróige clubs and special interest groups in the region.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Meet once a month with a team of Volunteer Leaders and young people.
  • Discuss and review a chosen book that the club picked to read for the month. 
  • Get to know the young people and act as a guide facilitator and mentor to them. 
  • Join in and have fun with the club. 
  • Ability to engage with young people aged 10-18 years of age. 
  • Involve the young people in decisions about the club, sharing authority and responsibility with them.
  • Identify the needs and interest of the club members and ensure the club programme of activities is relevant to them. 
  • Follow Foróige's policy and guidance including child protection and our code of good practice. 
  • Manage the club administration using our online system which is required for permission forms, logging attendance. 

Skills required for this role:

  • Facilitation - the ability to get young people talking and engaging in Book Club discussions, activities, or other club activities. 
  • Listening- to young people and other volunteers. 
  • Planning activities with young people
  • Time keeping
  • Ability to follow procedures and child protection guidelines
  • Communication - with other leaders, young people and staff

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The time commitment is 1.5 hours a month. The time commitment can be set by the team of Volunteer Leaders involved to suit their own availability and that of the young people. It is likely to be evening time during the week or anytime at the weekend. Foróige have a youth space in Newcastle West that can be utilised.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
