About Us:We offer free creative writing workshops for children, young people and community groups at locations in Dublin.




Description

At Fighting Words, we help young people discover their creativity, build confidence, and tell their own stories. Volunteer mentors are at the heart of our workshops, supporting and encouraging participants every step of the way.

All mentors receive training, are interviewed, and are Garda vetted. Mentoring is a rewarding opportunity to support young writers, engage with creativity, and be part of a vibrant community.

Workshops at our Dublin Centre

Our Dublin workshops take place in person and are divided into primary and secondary school sessions at our centre in Behan Square, Russell Street, Dublin 1

Primary School Workshops 

  • Time: 10.00am–12.00pm
  • These sessions focus on fun, collaborative story creation with primary school students.
  • Volunteers support children as they develop characters, plots, and illustrations in a lively, imaginative environment.

Secondary School Workshops

  • Schedule: Two afternoons per week – Monday & Thursday. Plus Songwriting on Friday morning. 
  • Workshops support secondary school students in developing their creative writing skills, self-expression and confidence.

In addition to the above, we offer workshops in other locations across Dublin.

Is training provided?:Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

What You’ll Do

Volunteers support workshop facilitators and participants by:

  • Writing participants’ names on name tags
  • Counting and recording votes during story-building activities
  • Typing up stories as they are created
  • Providing encouragement, assistance, and positive feedback
  • Supporting illustration and creative activities

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Weekday mornings and afternoons. Workshops run for two hours.
