Maranna Igbokwe

My name is Maranna Igbokwe. I am a post-grad student studying a masters in Financial services in the 2021/2022 session.I volunteered with The Prosperity in People Foundation Ireland. The Prosperity in People Foundation is an organisation that focuses on helping vulnerable people in the society to achieve prosperity both physically, mentally and spiritually. My role as a volunteer was to distribute PIP Care packs containing food, clothes, hygiene products, etc. to the homeless in Dublin during Christmas.

First, I saw the invite email from UL PVA on the volunteering opportunity and decided to read more about the foundation. I was drawn to the back story by the founder of the foundation, Padraic Rocliffe. I believe that it is encouraging and motivating to see how much influence meeting the right people at a critical time in your life can change your mindset and mould you to fulfil your dreams and aspirations. I was inspired by his story and decided to be part of the outreach.

Also, I saw this as an opportunity to “Shine-a-Light” to the homeless who may not be expecting any Christmas love and gifts during the Christmas season. Finally, I wanted to use the opportunity to meet and work with new people while visiting Dublin.Volunteering is a great experience because you get to make impact in the lives of individuals and/or give back to your community. The UL PVA provides so many opportunities based on interest areas and being part of it is a good way of meeting people of like minds, develop new skills set and learn more about stuff you are passionate about.
