About Us:Foróige's core purpose is to empower young people to actively participate in their own development and in the development of society.
This friendship programme is operated by Foroige, the National Youth Development Organisation. The Foróige Mentoring Programme is a professionally supported friendship programme for young people aged 10-18. It operates by matching adult volunteers in the community with young people who require a little extra support in their lives. Volunteers are asked to develop a friendship and create new opportunities for young people. The young person and adult volunteer are matched-up based on common interests and personalities. They meet once a week for a year and together decide on the type of activities that they would like to do.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
Mentoring Volunteers are asked to spend one or two hours a week with a young person. Participants are between the ages of 10 and 18 and are individuals who would benefit from developing a friendship with a caring adult outside of their family.
Together the adult and the young person will decide on the type of activities they would like to do ... go for coffee, play football, do arts and crafts, play computer games or listen to music.
This role can be flexible for both the mentor and the young person; meetings will happen at a local place and time that is mutually convenient.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Meeting the young person once a week, for 90 minutes for a year minimum. Befriend a young person and help build their confidence over time by listening to them and engaging in activities you both enjoy together. We need people to commit to for a year. There is flexibility.
Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hours p/week
Additional screening required for this role::
- In person or online 15 minutes info session - Application form requesting contact details for 3 referees - Interview + Home visit + Vetting - Training - Mentoring Induction 6 hours, HSE Children's First 90 minutes, NYCI Child Protection Awareness Training 4 hours.
