Description

PhD Pals is a new pilot programme to provide a social network for new incoming international PhD candidates at UL.  We understannd that starting a PhD in a new place can be daunting so we are looking for current PhD candidates to be mentors for the coming academic year.  Pals are expected to offer informal social and cultural supports to help new students settle in to life at UL.  The programme will provide events such as coffee mornings, yoga, movie tickets etc to get you conencted throughout the year.  Training and monthly drop-ins for mentors will also be provided.  This programme will provide you with the opportunity of earning a bronze award within one semester.  

Applicants must be in their 2nd year, or further, of their PhD at UL and available to meet new incoming PhD candidates during the year.

Is training provided?:Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:


- communicating with new students in UL

- advising new students on life in Limerick

- attending some events on campus

- logging hours to achieve the award


Details of time commitment needed for role:
At your own convenience- minimum 20 hr over 2 semesters.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
