About Us:DCU Volunteer and DCU SU are delighted to collaborate on DCU Darkness Into Light 2026 to fundraise for Pieta.




Description

Darkness Into Light 2026, proudly sponsored by Electric Ireland, is Pieta's (the charity for suicide and sel-harm prevention) biggest fundraiser. The 5km walk will take place at 4.15am on Saturday 9th May, 2026.

The funds raised through Darkness Into Light supports Pieta's lifesaving free srvices to people in your community that have been affcted by suicide or self-harm. This inspiring event also symbolises hope, as communities come together to support mental health, suicide and self-harm prevention.

This is DCU's ninth year hosting a Darkness Into Light walk.

Is training provided?:Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Help to set up for the event (guiding participants to the start line, hand our water, help to set up the stage with decorations, put up signage, etc.)
  • Guide participants along the Darkness Into Light route
  • Inform participants of any hazards along the route to prevent accidents
  • Aid in the clean up after the event
  • Working as part of a team to ensure the event runs smoothly and safety

Details of time commitment needed for role:
This event is taking place at 4.15am on Saturday 9th May. You will be needed for the set up for the event, the event itself, and helping to clean up after the event. You will also need to attend a short training session before the event. The time commitment is 4 hours, once-off.
