Requirements:Knitting needles, some wool and a quiet sofa to sit on!

Description

We need your knitting and/or crochet skills!! Please grab your needles and help make a child smile! Every year, thanks to the generosity of the Irish people, we send Christmas Shoebox Gifts to needy children in Eastern Europe and Africa.  We are always grateful to everyone for creating their shoebox gifts. However, some of the boxes need to be “filled” with a few more items and that’s where you can help. You can help make the boxes extra special for these children by creating easy-to-knit “WOW” items.

Please spare some time to knit little items like bags, “dude dolls”, hats, crowns, teddies – anything small that will light up a little boy or girls’ face.

Is training provided?: No

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

As a Super Knitter you will need to find some wool and knitting needles and then grab a cup of tea (or something stronger!) and whilst watching the TV or chatting with your friends - knit away!!!  We can send you on patterns to make teddy bears, dolls, little handbags or crowns but why not let your imagination run wild and create something yourself - whatever you make will be loved for years to come by the child who receives it.

Skills required for this role:

If you have an interest and/or love of knitting – if you can cast on, knit and cast off (or watch a U-Tube video to show you how which is what I did!) - you CAN do this!

Benefits you'll received ..... Easy to follow patterns can be sent to you that even the writer of this advert can follow and grateful thanks from Team Hope and the children you’ll be knitting for!

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The great thing about this role is – you can do this in your own home!! Keep on knitting and wherever you are in the country we can arrange for your wonderful creations to be collected by our Shoebox Co-ordinators from September onwards or you can drop them off to a checking centre in late October/beginning November - and maybe stay and volunteer to check some shoeboxes then as well!

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
None
