About Us:Student-led initiative operating a Re-Turn scheme to benefit charities

Description

Launched initially and led by TU Dublin’s students Aleksander Biegalski, Alex Siedlok and Cosmin Clopotaru and supported by lecturer Dr Colm O'Kane and Chaplain Paul Mallon who oversee the scheme - our Re-turn scheme at TU Dublin has been very successful and we want it to continue to grow and benefit charity beneficiaries.

Student volunteers are asked to promote the use of Re-turn bins on their campus and commit to bringing the cans and bottles to local re-turn reverse vending machines.

The proceeds are donated to charities chosen by the students who volunteer on Bolton and Grangegorman campus.

At TU Dublin we are committed to progressing the UN SDGs through collaboration and action.

This project addresses targets under SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. SDG 12 addresses sustainable and efficient use of natural resources, reduce waste and embed sustainable practice.

This project uses practical means for preventing, reducing and minimising the amount of litter and waste produced on campus and it is also a great example of circular economy principles which promote reducing waste, reusing, and repairing products and materials, and to recycle effectively.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Promoting the Re-turn scheme
  • Bringing the cans and bottles to vending machines
  • Contributing to reporting systems and sharing knowledge across the campuses

Benefits of Volunteering:

  • Making a difference to the environment and to the campus
  • Providing an accessible way for students and staff to support charities who benefit from the proceeds
  • Positive actions towards a number of SDGs
  • Joining a successful and supportive team of volunteers.
