About Us:UCD Circular is a student-led initiative tackling textile waste.

Description

UCD Circular is a student-led initiative tackling textile waste and promoting circular economy principles on campus. Supported by the UCD Sustainability Unit through the Seed Funding for Sustainability Initiatives, our home The Corner (Newman Basement) is a swap space where students can:

  • Donate or borrow clothing
  • Access a repair station for simple fixes or upcycling
  • Connect with other sustainability initiatives on campus

Our mission is to reduce textile waste and give students an alternative to the overconsumption driven by fast fashion. Today, there are already enough clothes on the planet to dress the next six generations, yet millions of tonnes of textiles end up in landfills each year. The fast fashion industry fuels microtrends and convinces us that we constantly need something new , leaving behind a trail of environmental damage and labour violations .

This isn’t the fault of individuals alone, the system is designed to make us feel unfulfilled without constant consumption. But we can resist. Conscious consumption is challenging, but it’s worth it.

At The Corner , we make it easier. By reusing the clothes that already exist , students can save money, cut carbon, and take part in building a culture of circularity at UCD.
