Description

Galway International Arts Festival (GIAF) is a major cultural organisation which presents one of Europe's leading international arts festivals in Galway each July.

Vista, The GIAF Visual Arts Invigilation Programme was created to give those interested in visual arts – from artists to aspiring cultural managers, art students to enthusiasts – the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Festival’s visual arts, learning and building skills and networks necessary for success in the sector.

VISTA participants take the role of core invigilators at the Festival Gallery where they welcome visitors and ensure they have an enjoyable experience, provide essential information about the artwork, and invigilate the space.

Participants receive professional development seminars, training workshops on the artwork, learn about visitor engagement techniques and receive exclusive talks from artists before becoming the Festival’s core invigilation team for tens of thousands of visitors.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Vista participants are responsible for:

Welcoming audiences to the Festival Gallery

Provide information about the artist/s

Ensure artwork is not damaged

Provide a simple tour of the Gallery

Benefits of Volunteering:

All programme participants receive official t-shirts, complimentary tickets to select Festival shows, discounts at local businesses, invitations to the Festival wrap party and certificate of completion.

Vista is an invaluabale opportunity to  network in the sector, meet likeminded people, speak with artists and arts practitioners, experience the behind the scenes of the Festival visual arts, make new friends and experience the buzz of the two most amazing weeks in Galway.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The commitment for this role is 9-11 July: professional development talks + training spread across three days (1 full day and two half days) 12 July: GIAF visual arts galleries openings 13-26 July: 5 shifts per week

Minimum time commitment per week:
10 hours p/week

Additional screening required for this role::
