About Us:Barretstown provides residential camps and programmes for children with cancer.

Description

Barretstown offers weekend residential camps to children and families affected by serious childhood. illness, as well as longer camps for children during the summer months.

As a Barretstown volunteer (or Cara as we like to call you, the Irish word for friend!), you will be a part of a cottage group with families and other volunteers for your weekend camp. In this group you will help the children and families to get the most out of their weekend at Barretstown. This could be by encouraging them to take part, getting up and dancing with them after meals, or just being their human canvas when they paint!

Barretstown offers these children a break from the heavy load their illnesses places on them, and helps them get back to just being children and this happens through having lots (we mean lots!) of fun. A big part of being a Cara is just being ready to have fun!

Is training provided?:Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

You will take part in all the activities with your families, as long as you are comfortable doing so. You will look after your families, making sure they have everything they need to enjoy the weekend. Most of all though, you'll laugh, smile, dance and have fun alongside them!

Benefits of Volunteering:

We accept volunteers from all walks of life, and no prior experience is necessary. If you are a new volunteer, you'll work alongside some of our more experienced volunteers, so they can show you the ropes.

As our camps take place over a few days, you will stay in our brand new volunteer accommodation building, wth all meals provided, all free of charge.

Transport to and from Barretstown is arranged each weekend from Heuston Station, Dublin.

Barretstown Volunteers create the magic for children and families living with serious illness. Will you be a part of the magic?
