Galway Community Sponsorship Group
Galway
About Us:Raising funds to support students from a refugee background
About Us
We are a volunteer group made up of university students, faculty, staff, and members of the wider Galway community. Together, we are committed to supporting education pathways and building a more inclusive environment for refugees and newcomers in Ireland.
Our Project
The Galway Community Sponsorship Group supports the arrival of two students from refugee backgrounds currently residing outside the European Union. Through a safe and legal pathway, we sponsor their resettlement in Ireland, focusing on education as a tool for integration and empowerment.
Our group collaborates to fundraise and provide practical, emotional, and community support to ensure these students feel welcomed and equipped to thrive in their new environment.
Our Mission
We aim to create sustainable, long-term solutions for refugees by enabling access to education, empowering students to seize opportunities, build self-reliance, and lead independent lives.
We coordinate with the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Ireland, Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre, and the University of Galway.
