About Us:Student Volunteer Opportunity: Anti-Racism Working Group




Description

The Anti-Racism Working Group is a new, student-led initiative at the UL Students' Union focused on promoting racial equality, challenging racism and misinformation, and building an inclusive campus culture. The student voice is central to the group and will take priority, and the group will collectively shape its priorities, activities, and ways of working (you can even name it!). With support from the Vice-President Diversity & Inclusion Officer, volunteers will contribute to awareness campaigns and policy-focused conversations that drive real change within UL. Recruitment will begin in Semester Two of 2025/2026.

Is training provided?:Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Participate in training (of your choice) designed to support the groups work

Contribute to the planning of events and awareness campaigns countering racism and misinformation

Meet at least once per month to discuss concerns on campus and how to support the UL community 

Provide input to support the Diversity & Inclusion Officer to make recommendations to UL Senior Leadership and lobby for change 

Benefits of Volunteering:

Training will be provided in areas of interest to the group (e.g. anti-racism, active bystander intervention, etc.)

Develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills

Contribute meaningfully to social change on campus 

Opportunity to work alongside the Students' Union on policy and events 

Volunteering hours contribute toward PVA hours

Details of time commitment needed for role:
This is a flexible role that prioritises student wellbeing and academic responsibilities. Volunteers can choose to engage in specific projects, events, or campaigns depending on availability.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hours p/week
