Description

Main Purpose of the Role:

As a Children’s Play Area Volunteer, you will support Doras’ English language classes by creating a safe and welcoming space for children while their parents participate in class. Parents remain responsible for their children at all times, but your presence helps ensure children are occupied with safe, quiet activities, reducing disruption and easing pressure on teachers.

We are seeking volunteers with some of the following experiences/skills:

  • Enjoy working with children and able to engage them positively.
  • Patient, calm, and responsible.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Previous experience working with children or families (formal or informal).
  • Awareness of cultural diversity and sensitivity to the needs of migrant and refugee families.


Required:

  • Garda Vetting (Doras will help you to complete this process together.)



Is training provided?:Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Main Tasks:

  • Welcome children and help them settle into the play area.
  • Supervise children during class time to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Facilitate simple, quiet activities (e.g., colouring, puzzles, playdough) – all materials provided by Doras.
  • Maintain a calm, positive atmosphere that allows parents to focus on learning.
  • Alert staff if any issues arise or if further support is needed.

Support and Training:

  • Volunteers will be supported by Doras staff throughout.
  • Guidance on activities and safeguarding will be provided.
  • The play area will be set up in a safe, designated space within the class.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Mondays and Tuesdays, 10:00am - 12:30pm (one or both mornings, depending on volunteer availability). There is an immediate need for this role in the current Semester. Depending on the number of parents bringing small children to class in future Semesters, the role may also be continue on an ongoing basis.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hours p/week
