Description

As a volunteer with the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps – Ballygall Unit, you will play an important role in engaging with both regular training sessions and providing first aid cover at public events.

Weekly Training (Wednesdays, 8:10–9:30 PM):
Volunteers attend weekly unit training sessions to maintain and build on their first aid and medical skills. These sessions include hands-on practice, scenario-based learning, equipment familiarisation, and occasional guest instruction. Training also helps foster teamwork and preparedness for real-world duties.

 Event Medical Cover:
Trained volunteers support community events, sports matches, concerts, and public gatherings by providing first aid and pre-hospital care. Duties may involve working in teams to assess and treat patients, manage incidents, and liaise with emergency services when needed. Volunteers help ensure public safety and respond confidently in a range of situations.

This role suits individuals who are calm under pressure, enjoy learning practical skills, and want to make a positive contribution to their community. Full training, including First Aid Response, is provided.

Driver (25+ years or current professional driver)

Drivers are a vital part of the volunteer team and are responsible for safely operating Order of Malta vehicles, including ambulances and minibuses, during events, training, and emergency callouts. In addition to transporting patients and crew, drivers assist with equipment checks, vehicle readiness, and support the first aid team on duty.

All drivers must hold a full, valid driving licence (Category B minimum; C1/D1 advantageous) and will be required to complete a driving assessment. Training in vehicle procedures, radio use, and basic patient handling will be provided.

Whether as an event medic or a driver, this is a rewarding opportunity to develop life-saving skills while making a meaningful impact in your community.
