About Us:UL EMerge PhD is a dedicated peer support group brings together PhD students to discuss ideas & initiatives that enhance the PhD experience.
We are currently recruiting to fill one open position for the UL EMerge PhD Committee: Secondary PSU & UL Global Liaison Officer.
An ideal candidate will be a UL student in their first or second year with relevant experience.
Some of your primary responsibilities are listed below-
- Work as the liaison officer for Emerge PhD to the University of Limerick Postgraduate Students' Union and the UL Global
- Liaise with (PSU postgrad research reps) about collaborating on events.
- Work with the PSU Faculty Reps to facilitate the smooth running of agreed events.
- Attend meetings with both organisations on behalf of EMerge PhD.
- Provide updates and summaries of such meetings.

This role is an evolving role, so new opportunities may arise but will be limited to specified time commitments.
Benefits of Volunteering:
EMerge PhD comes up as a voluntary, informal entity run by PhD students for PhD/Postgraduate research students within UL. Postgraduate researchers can be a particularly isolated cohort of students. The EMerge PhD network aims to provide an informal structure for PhD students and postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) alike across the University of Limerick.
EMerge PhD network is an informal and interdisciplinary peer-support network and supportive space for PhD students at the University of Limerick (UL). The purpose of the network will be to provide a space for PhD students to connect informally with peers, participate in relevant events, and receive information about other support structures available to PhD students around the UL campus.
Our vision is to
- create and sustain a successful peer support network that is open to all PhD students at UL;
- have representation from each faculty on the committee and within the network.
Our mission is to
- support Phd students by providing opportunities for peer support, networking, and peer-to-peer learning while empowering and advocating for PhD student voice;
- Share the support structures/services available to PhD students on campus.
We are an academic support network for Research Students at the University of Limerick. We work towards providing academic support for PhD Students at the University of Limerick. Working with us, you will gain useful experience and connect with researchers from different backgrounds within UL.
Details of time commitment needed for role:
The committee meets twice every month and, from time to time, holds extra meetings to facilitate event planning. Your schedule and the schedules of the representative officers will determine meeting schedules with both organisations.
Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
