Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

As a volunteer, you will: 

  • Support participants during exercise by offering encouragement, guidance on safe technique, and helping set up equipment (always under supervision). 

  • Assist the lead instructor with class flow, such as getting equipment, tidying, and preparing stations. 

  • Monitor participants for signs of discomfort or fatigue, and alert staff immediately if you are concerned. 

  • Help create an inclusive, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere for all participants. 

  • Chat to participants and help them feel relaxed in an exercise environment

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Classes take place on Tues and Thurs mornings at 9:30-10.30 or 11.00-12.00. Volunteers can come to as many classes per week as they would like to attend. Class participants usually stay for tea and a chat for approx 20mins after the class and if our volunteers could stay for a chat as well it is nice but not necessary.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role::
Stage 1: Participant observer Requirement: No prior experience. Responsibility: An active participant in the class. They talk to the participants. There is no correcting or teaching Sign the code of conduct. They are there to learn and observe. Stage 2: Surprised Instructor level 1 Requirement: Competency test knowledge complete. Responsibility: They learn class pedagogy (this comrises everything from teaching cues, exercise sequences, equipment) Level 3: Supervised instructor Level 2 Requirement: Competency test practical complete. Responsibility: Fully contribute to teaching class.
