We are seeking volunteers who would be willing to support our team in completing rapid HIV and Syphilis testing in community settings around Galway. For students interested, we also test monthly in the college. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain some valuable experience in testing and learning how rapid HIV and Syphilis testing works.
A staff member would always be with you during testing and you will have full training and support before actively testing. We would require that you would submit your CV, undergo a short interview and you must also undergo Garda vetting for this role.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
You will need to be comfortable with blood as it involves collecting blood for the test.
All training and support will be provided at all times.
The test is a 5 minute rapid test where we prick somebody's finger and withdraw a small amount of blood into a small tube and then that gets put into a small solution to determine the result. So somebody must be comfortable in pricking somebody's finger and withdrawing a small amount of blood. They will receive full training and will always have the support of sexual health west staff at all times.
Skills required for this role:
You don't have to have a medical background, you just need to be non - judgemental, supportive and understanding to the people who are coming in to test.
Understanding the importance of reducing the stigma attached to STIs.
Details of time commitment needed for role:
In the University of Galway, the time required is during the day at around 1-3pm.
Other community settings may vary and a lot of the time it may be evening time from about 5-7pm.
Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
