We are currently work on setting up an ESN Section in Cork to cover both UCC and MTU Cork.

We are also working closely with a number of International Societies in other Irish Universities to get ESN Sections set up there at the moment so select your College below!

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

We are looking for the following roles (please note some may all ready be taken with in person AGMs happening, but we will follow up with you if you have applied to just one role and it has already been taken):

Core Team -

 

PRESIDENT:

  • head of the section and of the board; representation of the section to stakeholders and local authorities; communication with the university; strategic planning and task coordination. active involvement in a club/society (or equivalent) is preferable!


VICE-PRESIDENT:

  • support to the President; coordinator of human resources and/or event management. In some Local Sections you'll be the main contact for the European University Alliance. Active involvement in a club/society (or equivalent) is preferable!


SECRETARY:

  • in charge of admin like weekly emails, and society google drive organisation; arranges weekly meetings and takes minutes; supports all members of the committee; implements and promotes international ESN-wide projects at our local ESN section.

TREASURER:

  • in charged of managing the ESNs bank account in your College and ensuring that all outstanding payments are completed and documented. You'll manage any budget applications and keep track of all income and expenses.


ESNcard MANAGER (Membership):

  • The ESNcard is an ESN International project that provides students with incredible discounts. As ESNcard Manager you will be responsible for communication with students, purchase from students, and keeping the information up to date and GDPR compliant! You’ll also become an expert on all our cool discounts! Check out esncard.org for info on this project!


PROs/BDOs:

  • public relations and communication management. This could mean: the creation of PR material, creating, planning and posting social media content and management of the information flow within the section. Let us know below if you have experience but if you don’t have experience don’t worry! You will be fully trained by the ESN Ireland support and outgoing PROs! Generally, there is a team of 2 or more PROs!

 

HEAD OF EVENTS & TRIPS:

  • You will be the main coordinator of the "Events & Trips Team" made up of 1 Head of Event & Trips and multiple Events/Trips Managers. You'll be the main person that will lead the weekly Events & Trips meeting with the Events/Trips Managers and relay this back to the main weekly committee meeting.


EVENTS/TRIPS MANAGER:

  • For events, help plan, organise and promote weekly events, sets up the room, welcomes guests, hypes up the event. For trips help organise the logistics of both day and weekend trips by booking accommodation, transport, tour guides and preparing the itinerary for trips. Preferably needs to be available to go on some weekend trips over the year (free of charge).  Generally, there is a team of 3 or more events/trips officers!


BUDDY SYSTEM COORDINATOR:

  • Helps to manage the Buddy System in your College, this could be in partnership with the International Office at your College or independently. The Buddy System matches local and international students for a semester / a full academic year to better integrate internationals into local university life. It also provides local students with an apportunity to get to know a new culture / practice their language skills.


PARTNERSHIPS MANAGER (NEW FOR 2025/2026):

  • You'll work on creating long lasting partnerships for your Local Section that provides students with incredible discounts through the ESNcard. You'll work with the stakeholders to form mutually beneficial partnerships. You'll also be negotiating deals and can place ESN as a desirable partner on any market!


ESN Causes Team -
SOCIAL INCLUSION MANAGER

  • As a Social Inclusion Manager you'll be responsible for widening the participation and social engagement. Raising awareness about mobility opportunities for students from underrepresented groups. Enabling exchange students to contribute to the local community, therefore them feeling integrated into its daily functioning. Implementing volunteer experiences as a natural part of the mobility experience and aim to contribute to social integration of students through volunteering activities.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER

  • As Environmental Sustainability Manager you'll be responsible for raising awareness about the issue and leading by example. Share useful tips and facts when it comes to recycling, reusing, reducing and leading a more sustainable lifestyle.

 

CULTURAL MANAGER

  • As Cultural Manager you'll be responsible for providing opportunities for cultural understanding between members of the Society, as well as opening an intercultural dialogue between them. Introduce the international dimension of life to the Society members while showcasing Ireland's cultural and natural heritage.


HEALTH & WELL-BEING MANAGER

  • As Health & Well-being Manager you'll be responsible for organising health and well-being related events such as sports activities or healthy eating workshops, coming up with healthy recipes or giving tips on where to purchase affordable healthy food in Galway.  They’ll also be responsible for the implementation of initiatives around moderate alcohol consumption of students abroad.


SKILLS AND EMPLOYABILITY MANAGER

  • As Skills and Employability Manager you'll be responsible for providing opportunities for self-development for committee and society members by organising workshops and training events where they can gain and develop their skills. Afterwards, using these newly acquired skills to advance their local community, as well as create additional learning opportunities for exchange students.


EDUCATION AND YOUTH MANAGER

  • As Education and Youth Manager you'll be responsible for providing information about mobility programmes and motivating students to study abroad. Advocate for better and more accessible mobility opportunities among decision-makers as well as create University-wide initiatives. Ensuring the maintenance in popularity of mobility programmes among upcoming generations, as well as creating future volunteers and active citizens.

 

Other positions -

 

FIRST YEAR REPRESENTATIVE

  • This position is for a First Year studies student of their Bachelors. You'll represent all first year students in your University and/or City and help to run events aimed at them / be here to support them within the ESN Section.

 

ERASMUS REPRESENTATIVE

  • This position is for an Erasmus student who'll be studying in Ireland for one Semester or a full year. You'll represent all Erasmus students in your University and/or City and help to run events aimed at them / be here to support them within the ESN Section.

 

INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE

  • This position is for an study abroad or full-time international student. You'll represent all international students in your University and/or City and help to run events aimed at them / be here to support them within the ESN Section.

 

POSTGRADUATE REPRESENTATIVE

  • This position is for a Postgraduate student studying a Postgrad Degree. You'll represent all postgraduate students in your University and/or City and help to run events aimed at them / be here to support them within the ESN Section.

Skills required for this role:

Requirements for all roles:

  • Being a student at a college in Ireland
  • Passion for learning about other cultures
  • Team-working & communication skills
  • Organisation & attention to detail
  • Creativity & problem solving
  • GOOD CRAIC (being a sociable person, able to create a sense of community amongst international students)
  • Experience with event management is a plus for ALL roles
  • Previous involvement in any student society/club (or equivalent) is a plus for ALL roles
  • Availability to take over the society in your College starting from Sept. 2025.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Time commitments vary depending on the role but usually anywhere from 2-5 hours per a week from mid September to mid December and late January to early May.

Minimum time commitment per week:
3 hour p/week
