About Us:We work with local partners in the world’s most at-risk communities and with people in Ireland to tackle the causes of poverty and injustice

Description

We will be taking part in Galway's St Patrick's day parade on the 17th March.

Our theme for the parade is about empowering future rising stars and building resilience to climate
change in countries where they are most affected by it, in particular Rwanda. We will have a
colleague visit us from Rwanda so we want to feature the colours of that country and highlight
legends and rising stars that they may have there. Our volunteers will be wearing different colour t-
shirts and masks, and hold flags or signs to make the float more colourful.
Our big message overall will be urging people to reduce the effects of climate change and in
particular to phase out of fossil fuels.
We will create signs with different phrases on them showing the impacts of climate change and our
solidarity with those affected by it in Rwanda.
With our message we want to show a sense of unity, to show people that together we are stronger
and if we spread this message together, the better the impact.
We will also hold a big blow up earth that will act like a float for us and people will be able to carry
to add the parade affect.

Is training provided?:Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

- Attend weekly meetings if available to help with crafts and decision making;

- Attend the parade and march with us in it.

Benefits of Volunteering:

We are looking for people who love to have fun and be part of a meaningful event where you will celebrate together.

As part of the St Patrick's day parade you will be able to express yourself. You'll be free to dance, sing, chant together. Or if you prefer, just march with us.

You can also bring your friends and make it a social outing or make friends there on the day.

We are expecting a colleague from Rwanda to join us on the day. She works on building climate resilience for communities affected by extreme weather events. You'll be able to chat with her and listen to her when she shares her experience with us while waiting to march or after, when we gather for tea/coffee and food.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
You could join our meetings before the parade which will last one hour, once a week. On the day, we would ask that you arrive at 10.30am and if you would like to stay for food, it will finish around 2pm.

Minimum time commitment per week:
Flexible/Varies

Additional screening required for this role::
On the day, we will ask volunteers to sign a form to certify that you understand and will follow Trocaire's code of conduct and intend to be respectful to everyone involved in the event.
