Monthly Gaisce Zoom Meet-ups

Join our Gaisce team for a meet-up once a month through Zoom and be inspired! Details below!

Achieve the national award medal and reach your goals!

Why now?

Gaisce gives structure to your week, gives you a wide network of people to connect with and it is an internationally known award.

How do I get started?

Sign up to Gaisce on their dedicated website. You will then be able to document your award with their online reflection portfolio.

What happens then?

You will be part of the NUI Galway community going for Gaisce! We have meet ups, one-to-one advisory sessions, motivational videos, all offered online!

OK, but what do I do to achieve the medal?

There are four parts to the Gasice medal, here are some ideas for your Gaisce goals, with loads more here.

Community Volunteering

  • Wearing gloves collect litter on a weekly walk. Check out the social media campaign Spruce Up Your Street

  • Volunteer online with a social media campaign

  • For face-to-face volunteering have a read of the safety protocols that are nationally developed detailed here

Skills

  • Choose a passion and interest that you would like to practice: cooking, baking, painting, the list goes on!
  • Visit SkillsSummary.ie to browse and assess where you are strong and would like to improve

Physical

  • Indoors or outdoors get the heart beat pumping and engage in a weekly stretch, walk, run, bike. You decide!

Adventure

  • Gaisce At Home have provided great advice, tips and ideas for working collaboratively online to design Adventure projects!

Why achieve the Gaisce medal?

There are personal benefits to setting goals and achieving them. Your mental health, confidence and self esteem will be boosted by participating in the internationally recognised programme. Your wider community benefits, your friends and family too! Summer 2020 can be the summer you earned Michael D Higgin's medal and Certificate for your CV.

Who would be my PAL - Presidents Award Leader?

NUI Galway has three committed PALs and three support PALs! You can even volunteer to undertake the training to be a PAL and lead your fellow students to achieve their goals! Check out stories from Gaisce Medal participants and PALs.
