Description

A volunteer is welcome to help teach English/ assist with conversational English to some residents living in Direct Provision for whom English is not their first language. A background in teaching would be ideal, but is not necessary. It is necessary for volunteers to be consistent, dependable, empathetic to some resident's situations, and respectful toward their privacy and dignity.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Working with residents to improve their spoken and written English
  • Building up their confidence in their conversational English
  • Supporting residents to become better able to communicate through English

Details of time commitment needed for role:
One evening a week (times to be agreed upon with the organisation).

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
References will be required. Garda vetting process will be required but assisted with from GARN members
