Description

Age Action Ireland is actively recruiting volunteer computer tutors for its Getting Started programme in Croi Heart and Stroke Centre ( Croí House, Moyola Lane, Newcastle, Galway, Co. Galway)

Getting Started is a volunteer-led Digital Skills course supporting people to get online or navigate smart devices with confidence.
The classes are small and volunteer tutors work one-to-one with students. The course runs for 2 hours once a week for five weeks. Fridays 1.30pm - 3.30pm

All tutors are volunteers and teach one student at a time in small class groups.

Is training provided?:Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

For the beginners course volunteers will be encouraging and helping older people to learn simple IT tasks (turn computer on/off, use the mouse, keyboard, search the internet, send, and receive emails).

Learners may also be interested in learning other skills such as downloading and uploading apps on their phone, using programmes such as Skype and Zoom, downloading photos etc. Training will be provided, and tutor lesson plans are available on all topics.

Our volunteers help us to tackle ageism and support older people to live full and independent lives. We aim to ensure that volunteering with Age Action is a two-way relationship, from which both the volunteer and Age Action will jointly benefit. We continuously seek to offer opportunities for volunteers, and to support our volunteers in their own goals.

We are committed to ensuring an accessible and inclusive volunteer experience. If a volunteer’s circumstances change, we will do our best to accommodate them. If you have accessibility requirements, we will do our best to accommodate them as well.

Please note: Classes will start in January 2026.

Benefits of Volunteering:

You will have the opportunity to gain communication, tutoring and teamwork skills. We offer continuous training and support our volunteers in their own goals. You will also meet new people and make a real difference in the lives of older people.
