About Us

Release Prison Partnership facilitates one-to-one mentoring and group character development courses in Irish prisons in order to build relationships and self-worth. These are proven interventions in reducing recidivism and promoting safer communities. In 2016, Release volunteers supported 122 prisoners and ex-offenders. 

 

The Role

Release are seeking more volunteers to mentor prisoners 1-1. Mentors visit prisoners for an hour at least every 2-3 weeks.  During this time, mentors foster authentic positive relationships as they listen, assist in post-sentence planning, serve as an addiction sponsor, or just have fun! 

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Successful applicants must recieve Irish Prison Service security clearance and complete Volunteer Training before mentoring. Volunteers must commit to regular reporting to the volunteer manager, and attend at least one support and supervision meeting annually. 

Skills required for this role:

Empathic, non-judgemental, reliable, consistent, and have a good attitude. Must be committed to regular reporting, support and supervision. 

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Visiting times are flexible - typically day time and 5:30-7pm slots during weekdays. Release requires that volunteers commit to at least 1 hour every 2-3 weeks.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
1. Please submit the application form found on the Release website (www.release.ie) to info@release.ie by 5pm Tuesday September 12 2. Pending suitability and reference checks, Release will invite you for in-person interview at the end of September. 3. Training dates TBD, but will be held early October 4. Irish Prison Service security clearance and completion of training are required before volunteering.
