Requirements:Applicants must be in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of LM002.


We are looking for students to volunteer as Student Leaders to support new first years in LM002. We are looking for LM002 second, third, and fourth year students who feel that this is something they can contribute which will help others and also that they should get some enjoyment and reward from it. 


What does this involve?

Meeting your first years five times over the course of the first semester and once in the second semester and attending a 3 hour training workship in Week 3. 


What can I get out of it?

The Leadership Programme is voluntary but all leaders will get a letter of commendation from your Dean and course director. You are eligable to apply for a Presidents Volunteer Award (PVA)(which is recognised on your academic transcript). 

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Undertake mandatory training in Week 3. 

Meet with your first years a total of six times. Initiate and maintain communication with allocated group of first year students. Assist first year students with questions that relate to transition into UL. Complete a short online review after each meeting with your group. Ensure that the first years in your group complete an evaluation. Participate in a review of the initiative. 

Skills required for this role:

Knowledge of resources available to UL students and especially first years. 

Empathetic and good leadership skills. 

Positive attitude. 

Good listener. 

Details of time commitment needed for role:
1 three hour training session in week 3. Meet 5 times for one hour in first semester. Meet 1 time for one hour in second semester.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
