The Hunt Museum is looking for volunteers to build upon its successful 3D digitisation programme. In 2018, the Hunt Museum took part in the Digital Counties Initiative with Digital Heritage Age. Funding from the Heritage Council and support from Limerick City and County Council got the Limerick 3D project off the ground.

Since then, Limerick 3D has created over 95 online interactive models available on Sketchfab at: These models were created using a mixture of photogrammetry and laser scanning. The Hunt Museum has recently acquired an Einscan laser scanner which will be the primary method of digitisation in the future.

This programme will be linked to the new Hunt Museum Studio, whose goal is to make available 2D and 3D images of the museum objects for use and creativity by others, showcasing the work of researchers, academics and artists who have used Hunt Museum objects and data as their starting point.

This project will act as a symbiotic volunteer group allowing volunteers to gain knowledge of museum collections including object handling, and technical experience of 3D scanning and post-processing.
