Requirements:
At the Balally Family Resource Centre we run a weekly 'After Schools Club' for children aged between 7 and 12 years. We aim to target the children who would benefit from additional support in building socialisation skills, getting on with others and working together as a team. We run this group every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from the centre from 2pm to 4pm and we are looking for volunteers who can work both or one of the above afternoons. Our children come from the two local primary schools in Balally.
We require individuals who are fun and energetic, who enjoy working with challenging young people and who have the ability to work on their own initiative.
Is training provided?: No
Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
Tasks will include:
- Planning group session each week
- Preparing food and drinks for the group as they arrive each week
- After school activities may include arts and crafts, sports, drama, music, woodwork, baking, quizes, trips out including hiking, hosting guest speakers,
- Post group evaluation and clean up
Skills required for this role:
Individuals must be:
- Fun and energetic
- Must be patient and show empathy
- Must have the ability to calmly deal with challenging situations which may arise from time to time
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Wednesday or Thursday afternoons 2.00 pm- 4.30 pm (or both afternoons)
Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
