Over 4 days in November (dates tbc), participants will meet on Zoom in the mornings for interactive and informal workshops on climate justice. Participants will use this learning to create a social media campaign to raise awareness on climate justice which will be shared widely by VSI. To support participants, an online advocacy and campaigning training session will be provided by an external practitioner. Participants will then meet in-person for a day-long seminar in Dublin the following week to reflect on the project and their next steps in climate activism, and to network with other participants. Interested participants will also be supported by VSI to organise and facilitate their own online climate justice workshop for VSI volunteers following the project. Professional online facilitation training will be provided to these participants to help them deliver their workshop.

We'll look at the climate crisis from a human-centred perspective, focusing on the inequalities created by climate change, nationally and globally, and recognising climate action as one part of broader action towards reducing inequalities and poverty, and creating a better future for all. We're looking for participants who care about climate justice and want to learn more!

Participants will:

-Learn about climate justice

-Receive training in advocacy and create a social media campaign

-Gain skills in critical thinking, communication, advocacy, and delivering workshops

-Receive a certificate to acknowledge the skills gained and hours spent on the project

-Learn how to take their 'next steps' in climate activism

-Meet other young people in Ireland who are passionate about climate justice and establish a network of young climate justice activists

After the project, participants will have the opportunity to:

-Complete an online facilitation skills training session and facilitate their own climate justice workshop with VSI’s support

-Attend an information session on funded EU volunteering opportunities for young people

Is training provided?: Yes

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The project will begin with online workshops on Zoom for 4 days, running from about 10:00 - 13:30 each day. Participants must attend 100% of the online sessions. Participants are encouraged to do a little follow-up reading/watching on issues raised in the online sessions in their own time (20-30 mins per day). Following the online workshops, participants will work in their own time to create a post that will form part of the social media campaign that will be disseminated as a follow-up to the project. Participants should allow at least 3 hours for this activity, but can commit more time to this if they’d like. During the week following the online workshops, there will be an in-person seminar in Dublin. The date for this session is still to be confirmed but we will provide dates and times as soon as possible. Finally, there will be an information session for the participants on funded opportunities for young people to volunteer in the EU, but attendance at this session is optional.

Minimum time commitment per week:
10+ hour p/week
