The Cell EXPLORERS programme is recruiting volunteers to run a Youth Science Club in a Youth Club. Science Club is a fun and rewarding program that connects you with local youth groups where though a cascading level of guidance and support, you empower young people and build thier confidence.
Note: Once you apply using studentvolunteer.ie we will contact you via email. We do not use studentvolunteer to manage our volunteering team, we use a mixture of emails and YourSpace.
Cell EXPLORERS is part of the Education & Public Engagement programme of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences and is open to any University of Galway students or staff. Our team of undergraduates, postgraduates and staff provides interactive hands-on science activities to schools, youth groups and families at science festivals.

The Science Club is a 5-week programme where scientists (at any level - undergraduate to postdoc to staff) meet once a week in a youth group to engage in a series of hands-on STEM activities. The main objective of the Science Club is to widen particpation in STEM and empower young people, in addition to training scientists! The involvement is flexible and tailored to researcher’s timetable. For more information: Science Club | cellexplorers

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Youth groups typically meet in the afternoons or evenings once a week. Transportation will be provided. Options for local transportation will be available for those living closer to the youth group locations. You can attend any sessions that are suitable to your schedule, from one to all five for a given youth group. Open dates and times will be emailed to you upon signing up. Currently we have clubs running:
Ballinfoyle, Tuesdays 4-5.30
Galway City Ard Center, Tuesdays 5.15-6.45pm
Galway City Library, Weds 3.30-5pm
Ballybane, Thursdays 4.30-6pm
Ballinfoyle, Thursdays 5-6.30pm
Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
