Description

Ballyhoura Development CLG  have opened a volunteering opportunity to support delivery of the Battview Matters Homework Club in Charleville, Co. Cork. As well as supporting delivery of the Homework Club, volunteers would also be involved with delivery of child and family support services in the wider project context.

The start date is flexible with this opportunity.

This opportunity would suit students of Sociology, Community Studies, Childcare, Psychology, Teacher/Primary School Education.

Volunteers will get first-hand experience of: intensive family support, parenting supports and programs for a diverse range of children and parents, working with members of ethnic minority groups, i.e. Mincéirí, and exposure to individual and family support methods and community development.

All volunteers will be subject to Garda clearance prior to commencing in the role.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Support the delivery of the Battview Matters Homework Club (for children aged 8-12 years of age):
  • Planning and facilitating activities for children ,
  • Communicating with parents and families ,
  • Implement policies and procedures,
  • Ensure Child safety ,
  • Administration .
  • Support the delivery of the Child and Family Support Service :
  • Planning and Facilitation of activities for children and families (parent & toddler group, activities for children, activities for families) ,
  • Participate and support project events and activities ,
  • Working in a collaborative manner with Respond Housing Association and Cork County Council.

Skills required for this role:

Interest in:

  • Working with vulnerable families and children
  • Child wellbeing and nurturing positive behaviour
  • Art and/or sports

Skills required:

  • Patience and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with families from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with tutoring children is desireable but not neccessary as training is provided

Details of time commitment needed for role:
3pm to 6pm every Wednesday and/or Thursday during primary school term time.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
