Description

This opportunity is suitable for students of the Creative Arts- music, drama, arts and crafts and volunteers will gain experience in planning and running their own community arts project with kids aged 8-12 years old. We are located in Charleville. Co. Cork, which is easily commutable from Cork or Limerick by bus and train (or car). Start date is flexible!

We are seeking volunteers to establish a new arts project for children attending the Battview Matters Homework Club. Our club meets from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays during term time and we allocate one hour to extracurricular activities.

The project you develop should:

  • Be suitable for children aged 8-12 years
  • Be sustainable and environmentally focused where possible
  • Focus on the children’s community and encourage pride of place
  • Involve art, music or drama
  • Run for between 6 and 8 weeks during term time only

In return, volunteers will gain an understanding of working with young children in a community development context, and have the opportunity to showcase the completed project with the project beneficiaries in a local establishment.

This opportunity may suit an individual or small group of students working together.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Planning and implementing a fully collaborative and create arts project
  • Working with children, their parents and project staff
  • Attending weekly to drive and facilitate project

Skills required for this role:

  • A strong background in and student of the creative arts
  • Experience working with children is desirable but not necessary
  • Full Garda Vetting/Clearance will be required

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Minimum 1 hour per week on a Wednesday or Thursday during term time. 6-8 weeks in duration (or more, on consideration)

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
