The Youth for Sustainable Development (YSD) programme is for young people (aged 14-18) to upscale their knowledge and skills regarding sustainable development and to become youth advocates and peer educators. The programme consists of a 12-week workshop series, with the option to continue engaging with follow-up weekly meetings.
As part of YSD, young people carry out action projects in their community that bring environmental and social benefits on a local level, while at the same time understanding the contribution their actions have in tackling wider global issues. These projects can be entered into the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards, a national competition that recognises and rewards young people who take action to improve the environment.
Through taking part in YSD, young people have the opportunity to:
- Develop teamwork, communication, and leadership skills
- Gain hands-on experience through the development of a Climate Action Project
- Represent ECO-UNESCO at National Youth Forums and events
- Include YSD programme attendance towards the Gaisce Award
- Have fun and make new friends!
