Description

The EMerge PhD is a sub-network of the EMerge Early Career Network which aims to provide a support network for PhD students across the University of Limerick. EMerge PhD is run by PhD students for PhD students. 

Goals of EMerge PhD 

• Establish a peer support network for PhD students from all faculties in the University of Limerick. 

• Provide opportunities for personal and academic development. 

• Provide a safe space for PhD students. 

• Foster networking and collaboration. 

• Peer discussion, tips and advice. 

 

We are seeking volunteers to join the EMerge PhD Committee to assist in the planning and facilitation of events for University of Limerick PhD Students. Further details of what this entails and the commitment involved can be found below in this opportunity.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Participate in bi-weekly EMerge PhD Committee Meetings (Every second Thursday 10am).

Participate in monthly EMerge Early Career Network Meetings (First Monday of the Month).

Assist in the planning and facilitation of EMerge PhD Network events (one a month). This could involve reaching out to speakers and vendors and creating and/or distributing advertising material for EMerge PhD Network events.

Skills required for this role:

A University of Limerick PhD Student/Candidate.

Experience or a desire to learn how to plan and facilitate academic events/workshops/seminars/social events.

Good written and oral communication.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
One EMerge PhD Committee bi-weekly meeting of 30-45 minutes every second Thursday (10 am). One monthly meeting of 30 minutes with EMerge Early Career Network (first Monday of every month).

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
A conversation with a current EMerge PhD Committee Member where you will be asked to provide details surrounding your PhD and program for example, faculty, department and year of PhD.
