Foróige and LIT run a Leadership for Life conference for 15 to 18 year olds during the easter holidays for the last 4 years. Leadership for LIfe is a programme developed by Foróige. It is a personal development programme facilitated across three modules. Aimed at equipping young people to explore their vision and passion, the programme develops key leadership skills such as: planning, decision making, critical thinking, goal setting and problem solving. Module 1 and Module 2 each contain 15 one-hour workshops & 15 hours of self-directed learning and reflection. The modules are interactive and group-based therefore it is recommended that the programme is facilitated with a group of 10-15 young people. This opportunity will focus on Module one offering the programme to young people in TY in Schools local to the Moanaleen Campus of LIT. Volunteers will be trained in the programme and be able to facilitate the programme.Young people who complete module one will be invited to the conference during Easter to participate in Module two of the programme. The young people will be offered module three in their own time following completation of One and Two. Module 3 is a self-directed 20 hour community action project plus a reflection journal and portfolio.
This is an opportunity for volunteers to practice thier facilitation skills and group work skills. They will also be invited to participate in the Easter Conference whihc will give a different view of group work and youth work skills.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
All volunteers are expected to attend training, Starting out, Child Protection and Leadership for LIfe training.Become part of a fantastic organisation. Get a chance to learn and practice facilitation skills. Become involved in group work, motivation of others and increasing your communication and leadership skills.
The volunteer leader will be tasked with supervision of young people however the role is more about enabling the young person to do more, be more and know more. The volunteer is integral in the encouragement and confidence building of the young people who are members. Ability to work as part of a team and report to the regional youth officer is important for the role. Working as part of a team and all that means for the successful outcome of the programme. Skills required for this role:
Open to learning and enthusiasm. Volunteers must participate in Foróige Training. Other trainings will be offered as the year progresses. Volunteers will be encouraged to link with other clubs in the area. Volunteers must have an understanding of leadership and a learning by doing approach. The programme is manualised, however volunteers talents and interest will greatly add to the experience of the programme.

Evenings that suit the volunteers, one evening a week.

2 hour p/week
Additional screening required for this role:
Applicants must fill out a volunteer form and a Garda vetting form for Foróige. Volunteers must meet the Regional YOuth Officer and attend relevant training.
