What Is A Class Representative?

A Class Rep is a student who is elected by their peers to represent the interests of their class to the Students' Union and lecturers in charge of their courses. They provide an important link between students and the Students' Union/staff in their Department. Class Reps serve to represent their classmates upon their election in everything ranging from JAWS (Joint Academic Workshop) meetings to Class Parties & Class Representative Council. The role of Class Rep also involves networking opportunities amongst other Class Reps, Academic/Administrative Staff and other Students across the country

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

• Liaising with lecturers & classmates

• Providing feedback on students learning experience, both positive & negative

• Emailing your class with info & updates

• Setting up the class social media accounts eg facebook groups etc

• Organising class nights out

• Organising class hoodies

• Class social events

• Getting to meet lots of different people in and out of your class

Skills required for this role:

Leadership Skills

Negotiation and Advocacy Skills

Organisation and Communication Skills

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Class Rep Training, NStEP Training, Class Rep Council Meetings and JAWS Meeting

Minimum time commitment per week:
4 hour p/week
