We are recruiting enthusiastic volunteers for our 4-week placement in Bangalore, India, which takes place from early July to early August.

SERVE volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Applicants must be willing to get stuck-in, open to learning about new cultures and perspectives, and able to live and work with a diverse group of people. Online applications are open now

Please note that there is a volunteer fundraising target of €3,495 and covers cost of flights, accommodation, food as well as grants for the Global South partner you will be working with. Fundraising support is provided, but reaching the target is the responsibility of the individual volunteer.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Teaching support in integrated primary schools.
  • Facilitating workshops and activities.
  • Staff training and capacity building.
  • Outreach visits and social care work.
  • Supporting the on-going initiatives of APD and Sumanahalli Society

Skills required for this role:

This placement is open to individuals with a variety of backgrounds and skills. Volunteers must be willing to get stuck in and be comfortable working closely with children and adults with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities. Previous experience of the disability sector is desirable. A background in teaching, social care or creative arts is an advantage. There are also specific opportunities for people with backgrounds in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
3 Training Days. These take place on Saturdays in Cork - One in February, one in April, one in May/June. 4 week overseas placement in July / August 1 Next Step debriefing weekend in October. This is an important and mandatory component of the programme.

Minimum time commitment per week:
8 hour p/week
