Rainbow Club Cork for Children with Autism
The Rainbow Club Cork Centre for Autism (RCCCA) is a voluntary run club currently at full capacity supporting 404 children and their families in areas of difficulty providing a place where they can belong, be accepted, understood and where we can provide support for them weekly. We are based in Mahon Community Centre. Our club has provided a social support network and space, services, activities and programmes, information and help, events and outings for all children and young people with Autism. We are a registered charity.
Our club is unique as it is the only club in Ireland that is specifically run to support children with Autism to develop their social skills which is an area which causes great stress for the children, in a fun way through Music, Arts, Drama, Lego and Sports. We work in conjunction with children, parents and siblings to establish the needs of individual children with Autism and put an individual plan in place to accommodate that need though the club activities. We have music therapy groups, Lego clubs, speech and drama, sports clubs, arts and craft groups. We also provide a teen boy and girl social group. Our sports clubs are run in conjunction with Cork Sports Partnership. To support our work and meet the specific needs of the children attending we have engaged the support of an occupational therapist, a Speech and Language therapist, two play therapists, an Art therapist, who support the children, both in groups and on a one-to-one basis. All our therapists working in the club have organised training programmes for our volunteers and we have also worked with external organisations such as LAMH to organise training for our volunteers.
