Description

Are you interested in voluntary youth work and the outdoors? Do you want to help develop the community members of tomorrow? Join Galway's fastest growing Scout Group, The 14th Galway! We work with young people aged 6 to 26 of the Western Galway suburbs.” We have volunteer opportunities in roles ranging from voluntary youth workers roles to background support roles. Volunteers training includes reference checking, garda vetting and basic training including Safeguarding. Volunteers are not automatically guaranteed a role and must fit with existing teams. Ongoing Training and mentoring is provided. Our Scout youth workers, Scouters, must wear our team kit,(ie the scout uniform). 

The 14th Galway, Galway’s fast growing Scout Group provides active scouting to young people aged 6 to 26 of the Western Galway Suburbs. We are part of Scouting Ireland which is a uniformed, voluntary, non-formal education movement.  

We provide a safe, youth  centric environment that encourages the Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional, and Spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, improve society. 

We provide a mixed programme of active, progressive Scouting based on weekly club meetings and, most importantly, regular outdoor day events and overnight camps building to major yearly summer camps. Our events provide a mix of adventure sport type activities, survival skills and community and environmental service projects.

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Are Beaver Scouts (6-8 year old) meet weekly in Knocknacarra Primary School 6:10-7:15 Wednesdays Cub Scouts (9-11 year old) meet weekly in Knocknacarra Primary School 7:15-8:30 Wednesdays Scouts (12-15 year old) meet weekly in Shantalla Community Centre 7:00-9:00 Fridays Venture Scouts (15-18) meet weely in Shantalla Community Centre 7:00-8:30 Thursdays All age sections do regular monthly outdoor adventures.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
