Description

Southill Afterschools Club are seejing to recruit volunteers for the academic year. We are seeking volunteers for the afterschools homework club. The homework club helps first year secondary school students compete their homework with the help of volunteers in a relaxed setting. Working with students from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds the club provides the students with a space to complete thei homework to the best quality. The main aim of the project is to keep young individuals engaged in education. As a volunteer you will join a dynamic team providing supports to the students, primarily with completing their homework. Volunteering in Southill hub's homework club provides a unique oppurtunity to gain practical experience and develop your own academic and theoretical knowledge to enhance your own academic studies. 

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

As a volunteer your duty is to aid the students in completing their homework within the homework club times if possible. You will be required to sit with a student and work with them to complete thei homework. You can help by providing aid with subjects you yourself studied in school or are studying now in university. Tutors also act as a mentor to the students by providing them with advice about secondary school and information about college. This is a unique oppurtunity to make a difference in the life of a young person as they progress through the education system. Please join our team to create greater oppurtunities and bettwr futures for our club members. Transport is provided to and from the homework club by the Southill Hub at no cost to you the tutor.

Skills required for this role:

No prior teaching/tutoring experience is necessary as training and ongoing support is provided by the Southill hub homework club team.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
We are seeking to recruit volunteers to come to the homework club on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The day is up to the volunteer to decide. The homework club is open to the students from 3.30pm to 5.00pm each day. Volunteer tutors are collected from the UL main campus at 3.00pm and returned to the UL main campus at 5.00pm

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
