This opportunity is for TU Dublin students Only.

We are seeking students to work in teams of twos or threes or maximum six to help Friends of the Elderly located on Bolton St - specifically to sort through and research their stock of vintage clothes in order to prepare them for resale.

The sale of the clothes will go towards funding Friends of the Elderly charitable activity which provides a wide range of social programmes for older people who would benefit from a friendly chat or a social outing. FoE provide companionship, support, social engagement, inter-generational activities and community-based services.

There is potential to hold a fashion sale organised by our student volunteers for students of TU Dublin sometime in Spring too.

We hope to partner with Friends of the Elderly in a number of ways, this project is an important pilot in forging good relations and for our students to learn about how to charity works and to use their teamwork skills.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Work as part of small team of student volunteers:

  • Work through the items identified by Friends of the Elderly team as being potentially suitable for resale to generate funds for the charity at the FoE office - in large well ventilated room
  • Research vintage items for value and potential resale price
  • Organise for the items that are not suitable to be recycled or thrown away responsibly
  • Work closely with our FoE contact to ensure they are satisfied with the outcome of the sorting and research.

Skills required for this role:

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good communication
  • Sensitivity to being in an external partner organisations office
  • Care in handling some potentially precious valuable items 
  • Adaptability

BUT no prior skills needed and the hope is that you will gain lots of new skills!

Details of time commitment needed for role:
TBC - we will do our best to work around your timetable.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
Yes – a chat with the lead volunteer student and the TU Dublin Student Volunteering Co-ordinator to ensure suitability for this volunteering role.
